Canyonfire: Tuolumne Meadows

Although I had been to Yosemite Valley three times, I had never seen Tuolumne Meadows, the upper regions of Yosemite National Park north of the valley. Much beloved of Yosemite fans, Tuolumne Meadows is crossed by the Pacific Crest Trail, the West Coast's answer to the Appalachian Trail, and sports Tioga Pass at the east end, namesake of my first backpack, the Kelty Tioga (I always wondered where the name came from). The weekend of Sept. 12-14, 2003 my chance finally arrived. I was surprised to be able to reserve a campsite only a week earlier.
