Canyonfire: Fitzgerald Marine Reserve

Stella Gornicki, my brother Brian, and I drove across the San Mateo Bridge on Highway 92 in early February 2002 and then across the north end of the Santa Cruz Mountains to Half Moon Bay. After a pleasant lunch, we drove about 6 miles north on Highway 1 to Moss Beach and the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. There are delightful sand beaches separated by rocky promontories. We unfortunately were there right at high tide. At low tide, a wide expanse of tidal pools full of sea life are accessible along the shoreline. But we found many kinds of shells and enjoyed scrambling over the rocks and viewing vistas of blue sea and sky.
